CROOKSTON, Minn. (May 3, 2007) – The Natural Resources Club at the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) reached a milestone of volunteer service in April. A weekend tree planting trip marked the 25th consecutive year that Associate Professor Phil Baird and Senior Environmental Health and Safety Technician Tom Feiro have been taking students to the Chippewa National Forest in northern Minnesota to plant trees for the U.S. Forest Service.

A plaque was presented to (l to r) Tom Feiro, Mary Jo Geldert, president of the Natural Resources Club and Phil Baird marking 25 years of service.
At the completion of the weekend, UMC students, faculty, staff and alumni have planted over 155,000 trees since 1983 helping to restock the forest in areas logged for forest products. A plaque was presented by the Marcell/Deer River Ranger District in the Chippewa National Forest to the UMC Natural Resources Club, represented by President Mary Jo Geldert, Annandale, Minn., to commemorate the club’s hard work and dedication.
