Minnesota Supreme Court Chief Justice Russell A. Anderson to Speak at Commencement at the U of M, Crookston on May 5, 2007

CROOKSTON, Minn. (March 19, 2007) – The Honorable Russell A. Anderson, chief
justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court will address the Class of 2007 at the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) during commencement exercises on May 5, 2007. The ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. in Lysaker Gymnasium on the campus. The public is welcome to attend.
Anderson was appointed chief justice by Governor Tim Pawlenty in 2006 after serving as an associate justice on the state’s highest court since 1998. As the administrative head of the judicial branch, Anderson supervises the work of all Minnesota courts. Prior to serving on Minnesota’s Supreme Court, Anderson served as Beltrami County Attorney from 1978 until 1982 when he became district court judge for Polk County’s Ninth Judicial District.
UMC’s Director of Counseling and Career Services Don Cavalier is a member of the Crookston campus commencement committee and shares the excitement of the campus regarding Chief Justice Anderson’s commencement address.
“It is a true honor to have Chief Justice Anderson speak at UMC’s commencement in May. His prowess on the bench has elevated him to his position on the Supreme Court, and we are extremely pleased that he will be here to share his experience and wisdom with our graduates and community,” Cavalier said.
Born and raised in Bemidji, Minn., Anderson and his wife, Kristin, live in Eden Prairie, Minn. Their three children grew up in Crookston and graduated from Crookston High School.
