CROOKSTON, MN (September 22, 2006) A workshop entitled “Moving from Disorganized Thought to Purposeful Behavior” will be presented in Youngquist Auditorium on Thursday, September 28 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC).  The workshop focuses on improving academic effectiveness for students diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).  The workshop presenter is Laurie Petersen, a certified ADHD coach from the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. It is designed to benefit faculty, academic advisers, coaches, club advisers, admissions staff, and staff working with students diagnosed with ADHD or ADD.

Students with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD or ADHD) represent a group of students at significant risk for dropping out of college.  Students with this neurological disorder often face extreme challenges being successful in an academic environment because most of the skills, attitudes and behaviors required for success in college are the skills, attitudes and behaviors most difficult for these students to develop and apply to their coursework and their lives.

Refreshments will be offered prior to the workshop from 8:30 to 9:00.  Pre-registration is required to ensure that adequate materials, seating and refreshments are available.  Please contact Laurie Wilson at 218-281-8587 to register. There is no cost to attend, and parking is available in Lot D, just to the south of Youngquist Auditorium. The workshop is co-sponsored by the UMC Office for Students with Disabilities, the Office of the Associate VC for Student Affairs, Student Support Services, and UMC faculty staff development funds.
