Project Management

Eric Burgess' Project Management students took part in an interesting service learning project. As part of Project Management, the course emphasizes concepts, procedures, and technologies used by managers, administrators, and employees in the operation of an organization. The course's goal is to introduce students to current business topics like electronic commerce, supply chain management, and enterprise resource planning systems.

Students split into small groups and with help from the Service Learning staff and Mr. Burgess projects that needed a little help getting organized and off the ground. Below are four examples of projects the students decided to tackle and their scope statements:

Habitat for Humanity Recycling Program
Dan Pawloski, Jean Korkowski & Shane Beck
The Crookston community has built seven houses for Habitat for Humanity over the years. This year, there is a chance that there won't be enough financial resources to complete one. One way that other chapters of habitat for humanity have raised money is through a recycling program. Any recycling program is beneficial by reducing the amount of waste put back into the environment. For Habitat for Humanity, it is more than that. Habitat for Humanity could potentially raise enough funds from recycling to ensure the building of a house in our community.

Web-Based Ride-Share Board
Andy Smith & Stacy Kringlen
The Ride-Share Board is a resource that allows people who need a ride and people who have room for a passenger to connect. There used to be a sign up sheet located in student lounge, where students can look if they need a ride or can provide a ride shopping, home or even to the airport. This sign up sheet has drawbacks. A sign up sheet on the web would be available 24 hours a day. Another advantage of the online Ride-Share is that the contents of the board are instantaneously update and always current . Crookston Public Library Flowerbeds
Farzana Sondhi & Adriane Hitchings
The Crookston Public Library has been planting annuals in their flowerbeds for years. Now, they want to start planting perennials. The goal is to propagate their perennials until they can cover their own needs and eventually host a perennial flower sale as a fund raiser for the library.
