Residence Hall Conduct Procedures

Administrative Hearings - The Office of Residential Life may hold a due process hearing in lieu of a judicial board hearing. Upon agreement of both parties a student will be given five (5) days (residential days as defined in the contract) to consider their willingness to settle or reject the sanction/settlement. If the student rejects the sanctions they can proceed to a formal hearing of the Residence Hall Central Judiciary Board.

The Residence Hall Central Judiciary Board (RHCJB) - consists of students and staff. The Conduct Code Coordinator will appoint four faculty or staff members to serve on the RHCJB. All RHCJB members serve one academic year appointments beginning fall quarter. The Board conducts hearings: (A) involving violations of residence hall rules and regulations not resolved through Administrative Hearings: (B) complaints concerning other students: (C) appeals of fines or other sanctions assessed by the residence hall staff. To appeal the decisions of the RHCJB, see Appeal of Residence Hall Judicial Board in the UMC Campus Conduct Code .

Actions which may be taken include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Warnings - formal notification that subsequent violations may result in the imposing of further sanctions
  • Community Retribution Hours
  • Referral to Counseling Center
  • Reassignment to a Different Living Space
  • Required Attendance at Educational Programs
  • Conduct Probation - formal notification that subsequent violations will result in a review of the student's privileges to reside in the residence halls

  • Contract Termination - the residence hall contract is discontinued immediately. The student will be given 24 hours to vacate the residence hall unless other options are agreed upon
  • Referral to District or County Court - in incidents involving failure to conform to federal and/or state regulations, the University reserves the right to refer individual/s to the appropriate court.
