Purpose
They can connect the vision and mission of the campus to the community where they live and work. Their external perspective will help the campus ensure current programs and initiatives are meeting the priorities of the individuals, groups, organizations and businesses they interact with.

Responsibilities of Members

• Provide comments and insight about programs and services UMC has or should consider
• Assist and advise on recruitment of students, faculty and staff. Marketing advice is particularly helpful
• Advocate for the University with local, state and national policy makers
• Help identify donors that may be willing to provide financial support for scholarships, programs or buildings
• Offer advice to the Chancellor on specific issues
• Commit to attend meetings as often as possible

Criteria used for members include:

• Familiarity with the campus i.e. graduate, donor, employer, policy maker, experience as a board member.
• Nomination for members solicited from current and former members, campus faculty and staff, alumni board members. Chancellor makes the appointment.
