UMC Ranked Best College for Second Year

For the second year the University of Minnesota, Crookston, (UMC) has been ranked as one of the best public regional Universities in the Midwest.

UMC received this significant recognition based on the U.S. News and World Report ranking process which included several measures of excellence. UMC was ranked second in regional public schools – Midwest Regional Liberal Arts Colleges.

Since its beginning, UMC has had different missions first as a high school than as a two year college, and now as a baccalaureate college. In 1993 UMC became the first college in the nation to issue a notebook computers to all full-time students.

"This ranking speaks very well for UMC for the changes we’ve made, and this year we’ve moved to the second spot in the region in terms of a ranking," said UMC Chancellor Donald Sargeant.

The indicators that U.S. News and World Report uses to capture the various dimensions of academic quality fall into seven broad categories: academic reputation; retention of students; faculty resources; student selectivity; financial resources; graduation rate performance and alumni giving. UMC was honored out of a group of 400 similar institutions in the United States.
