Discussion at UMC January 19, 1999 An open forum to discuss
the concept of TechnoMentoring, a program to bring communities and schools closer together
through the utilization of technology, will be held Tuesday, January 19 the University of
Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) Sahlstrom Conference Center, Rooms A & B, from 9:00 a.m. to
12:00 noon.
Dr. Bill Metcalf and Joe Salesky, the creators of the
program, will lead the discussion. Their program has been successfully used in other
states. The Crookston area is one of the three areas in Minnesota where Metcalf and
Salesky will discuss this program. They both have extensive knowledge and experience with
technology and mentoring.
The discussion will center around how the community can
utilize students in the schools as a resource for their technology needs. Most people have
questions about technology, and through this program students who are interested and quick
with computers would be trained at the top-of-the-line training sessions. When they
complete the sessions they would be application helpers for individuals, groups of
employees, or entire firms. This program would potentially integrate nicely with the
School-To-Work Program in Minnesota.
The open forum is an informational discussion and ideas and
comments about the program are very important to its success.
Individuals planning to attend should R.S.V.P by 4:30 p.m.,
Monday, January 18, so adequate preparations can be made for the size of the crowd.
