UMC Choir Tours Iceland, London, and Paris

The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) Choir directed by George French recently completed a tour that included stops in Reykjavik, Iceland, London, England and Paris, France.

Fifty members of the choir, guests and staff experienced three different cultures and presented four concerts on a 10-day trip over spring break. Concerts were given in Big Lake, MN, at a nursing home in Bloomington, MN, at the Norse Heritage Center in Reykjavik, Iceland ( a joint concert with choirs from the University of Iceland) and at St. Margarets Anglican Church in London.

In addition to the concerts, the group experienced the Blue Lagoon (a geo-thermal hot spring in Iceland), riding Icelandic ponies, touring glacial waterfalls, geysers and volcanic craters, subways in London and Paris, Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, musicals and theatrical performances in London, the Louvre in Paris, the Eiffel Tower, and sleep deprivation.

The trip was paid for by funds provided through donations from the student's home communities, benefits, and individual contributions. This was a learning experience that highlighted the students’ abilities to adapt to new environments and cultures.
