Chancellor Named to Interactive Courseware Committee
Donald Sargeant, chancellor at the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC), has been named to the Interactive Courseware Committee for the Midwestern Higher Education Commission (MHEC).
Interactive courseware is a commercially produced, computer based, multimedia instructional modules that comprise a full credit bearing course. The courseware is faculty managed and contains text, computer graphics, photographic stills, animation, sound and motion video. It is adaptable to institutional needs in that it accommodates different academic term length.
"Interactive courseware offers highly interactive learning," said Chancellor Sargeant.
The interactive courseware project seeks to benefit public and private college and universities. Objectives are to make available the highest quality and most cost effective commercial courseware at the best prices; to help institutions make good decisions in the acquisition of interactive courseware; to make institutions more aware of interactive courseware functionality and benefits; to encourage the development of new products that meet the features and capabilities sought by institutions; and to actively engage and encourage faculty to consider the potential uses of interactive courseware.
The project targets those academic disciplines and subjects that are characterized by high student demand where enhanced instructional support is desired to increase student success. The initial focus is upon the general education components of undergraduate associate and baccalaureate degree programs.
Representatives to the Interactive Courseware Committee are from both private and public institutions in Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, Wisconsin, as well as members of the MHEC.
