Familiarity with Windows 95 would be most helpful.

General Outline:

7:30 – 8:00 Registration and Coffee

8:00 – 8:15 Overview of Precision Agriculture

8:15 – 9:00 Introduction of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) using MapInfo.

9:00 – 11:00 Concurrent Sessions:

  1. Demonstration of making field boundaries and soil sample points in the field using Global Positioning Systems. UMC van equipped with GPS.
  2. Creating Raster images from aerial photos or slides through scanning techniques. Enhancing images using false coloring processes.

11:00 – 12:00 Georeferencing and map registration.

  1. Point Method
  2. Using Geo Tif format

12:00 – 1:00 Lunch Break (Provided upstairs in the Conference Center)

1:00 – 3:00 Loading the field boundary map.

  1. Information retrieval using MapInfo.
  2. Creating polygons.
  3. Creating layers.
  4. Working with browsers.
  5. Creating a Thematic map.

3:00 – 4:45 Creating and working with Management Zones.

4:45 – 5:00 Economic analysis/Issues.

5:00 – 6:00 Open session (individual concerns)

 

Cost: $60.00 advance registration, or $70.00 at the door. Lunch and coffee breaks included. Enrollment limited to 20 students. Ask about Continuing Education credits.
