Recommends UMC Receive $4.6 Million
Governor Arne H. Carlson announced the largest bonding initiative in the history of the University of Minnesota. The $249 million package, which was unveiled Monday at the U of M Minneapolis campus, includes $4.6 million for the Crookston campus. The governor was joined for the announcement by UMC Chancellor Donald Sargeant, along with other dignitaries.
The 1998 University bonding package recommended by the Governor includes $4,624,000 for the Crookston Campus facility improvements for:
Other funding would includes health and safety issues including an elevator in Kiehle, hazardous waste storage, general air quality, heating plant and Kiehle and classroom renewal.
This funding is still very preliminary, according to Dean McCleary, vice chancellor for finance at UMC, but "It does have support by the Governor. This appears to be positive news for UMC."
Bonding initiatives recommended by the Governor will be introduced in the 1998 legislative session.
