UMC Students, Staff Recognized at Awards Reception

Local students, faculty and staff recently received awards from the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC). The awards were presented at the annual Spring Awards Ceremony and Reception held in the UMC Conference Center on the campus. The ceremony is held each year to honor those who have made outstanding contributions or accomplished high education goals at the University’s Crookston campus.

Man and Woman of the Year were:

• Korey Hegreberg, plant industries management major from Borup
• Karolyn Joop, hotel, restaurant, and institutional management and dietetic technician major from Borup.

Faculty and staff receiving awards were:

• Most Supportive of Students – Pam Sullivan, junior cashier and food aide
• Outstanding Student Service – Richard Nelson, director, ag management division
• Outstanding Educator – Paul Aakre, assistant professor of mechanical agricultural
• Best Implementor of Technology – Charles Habstritt, associate professor of agronomy.

Twelve students received Student Service Awards. These awards are presented to those students who have excelled not only academically, but also through leadership and service to the University and community. This year’s Student Forum Association officers and senators were recognized for their work.
