UMC Hosts Two Equitation Shows

The UMC Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Team hosted two Hunt Seat Equitation shows the weekend of November 1 and 2, 1997. Competing against UMC were teams from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, Iowa State University, and St. Cloud State University.

Vicky Wilhelm of Moorhead, MN, was the judge for the Saturday show, which began at 1:00 p.m. Tom Soderberg of Hudson, WI, was the judge for the Sunday show, which bagn at 9:00 a.m. Both shows were held in the University Teaching and Outreach Center (UTOC) arena. The shows included the 'over fences' classes and followed with the flat classes.

UMC was Reserve High Point Team on Saturday and was High Point Team on Sunday. Sarah Williamson tied for Reserve High Point Individual on Saturday and Melissa Cave was High Point Individual on Sunday. It was a very successful show in spite of the weather, which at times neared blizzard conditions.

Melissa Hower-Moritz, the program coordinator for UMC's equine industries management program and an advisor for the event, stated, "I couldn't have done this without all of the students' hard work! I am very proud of the calibre of students we have here at UMC! They are not afraid of hard work, or of having fun while working!"

Other UMC students showing during these events included: Gina Richter, Susan Wegwitz, Charity Borreson, Kelly Fulton, Laura Pikop, Patti Blackwell, Tara Kude, Kendra Jenkins, Emily Spinler, Naomi Brennan, and Tracy Bruning.

Several UMC students are competing this coming weekend at ISU in two Stock Seat competitions. We wish those students well!
