UMC to Host “Oct-SOBER-fest” October 6-10

The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) Alcohol and Other Drug Awareness Program (AODAP) will sponsor Alcohol Awareness Week—Oct"SOBER” Fest—the week of October 6-10.  During Oct"SOBER” Fest UMC students will participate in a variety of events, all designed to reinforce personal responsibility and respect for current state laws and campus policies when it comes to the consumption of alcoholic beverages.

UMC staff member T. D. Hostikka, AODAP program coordinator, says plans are to make the week’s events thought provoking, yet entertaining for students.  All sessions will be held on the UMC campus and are open to the public.  For more information about the week’s events or for disability accommodations, contact Hostikka at 218-281-8527, or his assistant, Jodi Ramberg, at 218-281-8586.

During the week AODAP will unveil eight new bulletin boards with the first round of a social norming marketing campaign.  AODAP will also unveil twelve new placards that provide information regarding its programs and detailed messages related to the marketing campaign.   An alcohol and other drug reference section in the UMC Library will also be unveiled.  The social norming campaign and many of the other activities are part of a significant grant UMC received from the U.S. Department of Education to prevent high-risk student drinking.

Throughout the week UMC student athletes will also sell t-shirts and will wear them on a certain day to demonstrate a unified front on alcohol awareness.
