UMC International Dinner Series Begins March 3 with Focus on Bangladesh

Flag of Bangladesh“Bangladesh: Fragrances of Six Seasons” will kick off the 2003 University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) International Seminar Series on Monday, March 3.  This first in a series of three seminars will be presented by UMC students Farzana Sondhi and Mahjabeen Khan, both of whom are from Bangladesh. 

Each evening in the series will begin at 6 p.m. with an ethnic dinner, followed at 7 p.m. by a program focusing on the culture and traditions of the respective country.  The dinner will be served in Brown Dining Room of UMC’s Sahlstrom Conference Center and is by reservation only.  Cost is $8 per person.  Please make reservations for the seminar series by calling Brent Melsa at 218-281-8540 or 218-281-8538.

Flag of ColumbiaOn Monday, March 17, the second dinner in the series will focus on “Colombia: Not Just Coffee…Nor Drugs.”  Among the presenters for the program will be UMC students Pilar Cardenas, Luis Guillermo Cardenas, and Andres Felipe Monroy.

Flag of NepalThe third dinner in the series will be held Monday, March 24, and is themed “Nepal: Close to Heaven.”  UMC student Shashanka Acharya will provide perspectives on his Nepalese culture.

The series will culminate with the annual International Dinner, set for Saturday, April 12, at 6 p.m. in Brown Dining Room.  UMC’s international students participate in this dinner, providing menu items from their respective home countries as well as entertainment for the program that follows.  Tickets for this dinner are $10.00 per person and will be available through advance sales only.  Tickets may be purchased at the UMC Business Office, in UMC’s Selvig Hall, or contact Brent Melsa at 218-281-8540 or 218-281-8538.
