Regional Artist David Badman to Speak at UMC Fall Convocation October 16The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) will hold its Fall Semester Convocation on Wednesday, October 16, at 10 a.m. in the auditorium of the newly-renovated Kiehle Building. Jean Korkowski, Crookston Student Association President, will serve as master of ceremonies. All interested students, faculty, staff and community members are invited to attend. Special guest speaker will be David Badman, owner of Badman Design in Grand Forks, ND. Badman will speak about owning and operating his own business. He will also formally present the new UMC Academic Torch, which he designed and created, to the campus community. Badman, a metalsmith and designer and a graduate of the University of North Dakota, began creating jewelry in 1985 and opened his first studio in 1988. His design work has progressed from jewelry and accessories to designs for the home such as mixed media wall hangings, tables, and wine racks, to larger sculptures. Several commercial locations feature Badman table tops, bar tops, mirrors, and wall hangings. His work has also been featured on the Home and Garden Channel’s “Modern Masters” television program. Many of his pieces can be viewed at his business website www.badman.com. Also as part of the program, the UMC Choir will perform a set of musical selections under the direction of Associate Professor of Music George French. UMC Chancellor Don Sargeant will recognize members of the Chancellor’s 4.0 Club from Spring Semester 2002. And varsity athletics team captains will recognize their respective teams and provide updates on their accomplishments this season. The public is invited to attend.
