UMC Faces Aftermath of August 8 Storm

Winds of up to 100 miles per hour that swept across northwest Minnesota on the evening of August 8, 2001, caused much damage to the campus grounds at the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC). The winds blew down more than 75 trees across campus and caused damage to the roofs of several buildings at UMC and at the Northwest Research and Outreach Center.

Campus crews made great progress in the clean-up and in restoring electrical power on August 9.  Electricity was fully restored by 3 p.m. that day.  Clean-up will continues this week and into next week.

According to UMC Chancellor Don Sargeant, a risk management inspection group from the U of M, Twin Cities will tour the campus today (Friday, August 10). The group will begin the required paperwork and the documentation process of the damage. No dollar estimate of the damage is available at this time.
