UMC Commencement Set for May 23
Commencement exercises for the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 23, 1997, on the campus mall (or in Lysaker Gymnasium in case of rain). Baccalaureate, associate in applied science, and associate in science degrees will be conferred upon graduates, subject to completion of all curriculum requirements. The ceremonies include not only spring quarter graduates, but also those who plan to complete graduation requirements during the 1997 summer and fall quarters. Students graduating during the past fall and winter quarters may also participate in commencement ceremonies. Candidates for Graduation A special feature of this years commencement is the recognition of the first masters degrees in Human Resource Development offered through UMC using distance education technology. The featured speaker at this years ceremonies will be retiring president of the University of Minnesota Nils Hasselmo. The Honorable Warren Larson will bring greetings from the University of Minnesota Board of Regents. UMC Chancellor Donald Sargeant and Larson will confer the degrees, while UMC Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Rita Meyer and Hasselmo will present the candidates. UMC Student Forum President Lance Reitmeier, plant industries management major from Fisher, will pass the Torch to President-elect Mark Erickson, business management major from Fertile. The processional will be led by mace-bearer Richard Christenson, associate professor of speech, and faculty marshal Robert Smith, chair of the management division. President of the UMC Alumni Association, Carl Melbye class of 1977, will offer congratulations to the graduates. The presentation of colors will be by the Grand Forks Air Force Base Color Guard, and special music will be presented by the UMC Choir under the direction of George French, assistant professor of music and theater. The public is welcome to attend the commencement exercises and the reception in Brown Dining Room following the ceremonies. Disability accommodations will be provided upon request.
