As part of that meeting Christo Robberts, the director for the new Processing Technology program at the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC), will lead a session at 1:15 p.m. on bonsai.

The Spring Workshop begins at 10:45 a.m. with Registration; 11:30 a.m. Luncheon; 12:30 p.m. Country Store; 1p.m. Welcome by Diana Morkassel and Arias on "Trees" by tenor Ed Palmer. Bonsai is the art of manipulating the shape and growth rate of trees in shallow pots by careful pruning and controlled fertilization. Robberts started his first bonsai tree in 1970. Before he left South Africa he had a collection of 150 trees, including the oldest collected specimen tree, which was 120 years old. He has attended workshops held by John Naka, Japanese bonsai master.

Registration for the Spring workshop is $6. To make a reservation, call Janice Lenhart at 218-745-4012.

Individuals who cannot attend the bonsai seminar or for those who would like additional training in bonsai, UMC Continuing Education will offer a three-day Bonsai hands-on workshop June 3 through 5.

Disability accommodations will be provided upon request. For more information, call UMC Continuing Education at 218-281-8681.
