Chris Vito enters his first season as Head Baseball Coach at the University of Minnesota, Crookston. He comes to UMC from Mesabi Range Community and Technical College in Virginia, Minnesota where he served as assistant coach in 2007. Coach Vito helped guide the Norse to a 25-12 overall record as well as third place finishes in the Minnesota Community College Conference State Tournament and Region XIII Tournament.
"I am honored and thrilled to have the opportunity to lead the University of Minnesota-Crookston Baseball program," says Vito. "We are going to work extremely hard to get our program competing with the best in the NSIC."A native of Eveleth, Minnesota, Coach Vito coached at the University of Wisconsin-Superior from the fall of 1999 until the spring of 2006. He served as head baseball coach his last three seasons. He also taught in the UWS Health and Human Performance Department from 2000-2007 and served as Sports Information Director from 2000-2004.Prior to that, Coach Vito was a graduate assistant baseball coach under Dr. Mitch McLeod at North Dakota State University in Fargo, North Dakota from 1997 to 1999. He also served as an administrative assistant within the NDSU Athletic Department.
Coach Vito also coached in Hibbing, Minnesota for seven seasons where he served as an assistant with the high school, American Legion, and VFW Baseball programs. He also coached VFW and American Legion Baseball in Mountain Iron, Minnesota and Babe Ruth and VFW Baseball in Eveleth, MinnesotaA 1991 graduate of Eveleth-Gilbert High School, Coach Vito received an Associate of Arts Degree from Mesabi Range Community and Technical College in Virginia, Minnesota in 1993 and a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Physical Education from Minnesota State University - Moorhead in 1995. He received a Master's of Education Degree with an Athletic Administration Emphasis from North Dakota State University in 1999.
In addition to coaching baseball, Vito serves as Assistant Sports Information Director. He resides in Crookston. |
