Birman Jenkins (BJ) just completed his third year and is looking forward to his 4th year as the new Assistant Coach for the Univ. of Minnesota, Crookston Golden Eagles. He has a good player/coach history with Head Coach Jeff Oseth, in which will help the program to rise to greater achievements. BJ has the ability to help the development of the program and the players in aspects of Recruiting, conditioning, agility, and defense.
BJ grew up loving sports and gradually became an outstanding athlete. He was an All-Star 1st baseman; high school 400-meter dash record holder (47.53); and an Arkansas Basketball All-Star Nominee. He also shared the same high school Alum Mater and basketball program, in Hamburg, Arkansas, as Scottie Pippen of the six-time World Champion Chicago Bulls. After high school, he served four years in the United States Navy as a Submariner in the Atlantic Fleet.
Prior to coaching at UMC, he played for the Golden Eagles from 1999-2001 as a multi-positioned player. He was part of the 1st UMC NCAA Division II team in 99" along with NSIC scoring record holder, Joe Hasz. He was top ten in the NSIC conference in FG% and offensive rebounding in 99". He has the UMC 3-point FG% record (48%). BJ also attended Parkland Community College in Champaign, IL. (97-99). There he was captain of the team his freshman and sophomore seasons. In his two year stint, he was selected All-Conference, All-Region, and led the team in scoring (soph) and rebounding (fr). He has the record at Parkland for the most FT attempts in a season (216).
