AURI moved into new offices in the Owen Hall Annex

UMC's first bachelor of science degrees are awarded
at commencement ceremonies.

Regents of the University of Minnesota sold five acres
of land adjacent to the UMC campus to the city for
the purposes of creating a "business incubator
park."

Production Horticulture Facility was constructed over
the fall and winter

Dedication of the Sahlstrom Conference Center in honor
of Dr. Stanley D. Sahlstrom, UMC’s founding
provost and former University Regent.

Construction on the Controlled Environmental Science
Building began with groundbreaking ceremonies on May
23, 1997

UMC names first inductees into the Athletic Hall of
Fame

The Northwest Experiment Station changed its name
to become the Northwest Research & Outreach Center.

Velmer S. Burton, Ph.D. named third chief officer
of UMC. Inauguration was held October 17.

UMC received the Pioneer Award at the Fourth Annual
Conference on Ubiquitous Computing

UMC abandoned its original open enrollment policy
in favor of more traditional enrollment standards.

The Controlled Environmental Science Building was
dedicated as the Bergland Laboratory on October 17,
2003. Named after Robert Bergland former U.S. Secretary
of Agriculture under President Carter and Regent of
the University of Minnesota.
2004
Upon Chancellor Burton’s resignation, Joseph
Massey, Ph.D. is named Chief Executive Officer of
