The
University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) centennial
logo is a unique design that features the University
of Minnesota, Crookston “M” logo while paying
tribute to UMC’s predecessor, the Northwest School
of Agriculture (NWSA). The grains of wheat on each side
of the crest of gold have been a symbol of the NWSA
since the early years of the school. The official UMC
logo resting on the 100 symbolizes the foundation of
a century of education and research excellence. By utilizing
the familiar maroon and gold, the logo recognizes our
connection to the University of Minnesota – from
the institution’s inception, through the years
as a technical college, and now as a baccalaureate institution.
The banner at the bottom marks the beginning of the
NWSA in 1906 to UMC’s centennial year in 2006.
“Our goal was to honor our roots and recognize
the history of the Northwest School of Agriculture,
acknowledge our close tie with the University of Minnesota,
and show that we are the University of Minnesota, Crookston
and will be for the next 100 years. I think through
the use of the imagery from the NWSA logo, the traditional
maroon and gold colors and our featured logo in the
middle we have created a logo that will accomplish all
of those goals as well as be easy to reproduce and recognizable
as we move through the centennial.” Mike Meyer,
Director of Development & Alumni Relations said. |
