Centennial Goals

The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) will celebrate 100 years of academic excellence in 2006. To recognize the University’s contribution to the educational, social, and economic well-being of residents of northwest Minnesota, the state, and beyond, the University will celebrate its centennial from June 2005 through May 2006. Many individuals and groups have contributed to the growth and success of UMC. A consistent trait of these individuals and groups, beginning with UMC’s earliest days as the Northwest School of Agriculture, was their quest to excel.

Six key goals will guide the celebration:

• Events and activities will reflect accurately and will publicize and promote the achievements of UMC. When appropriate, events should also demonstrate that UMC is poised to address issues of the 21st century.

• Events will enhance the academic and intellectual life of the UMC community.

• In the spirit of the University’s statewide mission in public affairs, several events will serve as a means of outreach to Crookston, northwest Minnesota, and the State, providing individuals outside the campus community with an opportunity to benefit from the many programs and activities offered during the centennial year.

• The centennial will highlight the partnerships of the institution with the University of Minnesota and with the Northwest Research and Outreach Center, both of which are integral to the establishment and success of UMC.

• Events will educate current students, alumni, and supporters of the history of the campus and highlight the future direction of UMC.

• The centennial events, when possible, should attract people to the UMC campus to enhance their understanding of the people, programs, and facilities that make UMC great.
