Mission Statement of the Career & Counseling Department
UMC's Career and Counseling Department advances the tripartite instruction, research and outreach mission of UMC and contributes to the core mission of the University of Minnesota by offering comprehensive, accessible, and flexibly delivered services. To this end:
• UMC's Career and Counseling Department continues to be a leader in providing services to students, parents, faculty, staff, employers, alumni, and administration locally, regionally, throughout the state of Minnesota and globally.
• Continue to be a leader in using technology both in development of on-line web site programs, employment listings, resources and services located on the career and counseling website.
• Students, employers, and alumni have access to services and employment information through new-online programs and technology.
• Defined role and impact in recruitment and retention of students (Career and Counseling Planning for undecided students).
• Design and implementation of up-to-date career and counseling decision-making technology. (MBTI, Strong Interest Inventory, Campbell Skills and Interest Inventory, Please Understand Me!).
• Development and design of career library in cooperation with UMC's Library.
• Expand technology recruitment sight (Experience eRecruiting Network) to include employer's connections to departments and programs and to increase companies that recruit on-campus.
• Develop a marketing plan for all offices included in Career and Counseling Department.
• Faculty view Career Services Office as a career resource aimed at providing information for in-class career exploration and activities. Help faculty to integrate career exploration/decision-making opportunities for use within their courses.
• Provide services and instruction/assistance for faculty to integrate career information into introductory courses.
• Maintain the philosophy of continuing as an educational Career and Counseling Department.
• Promoting a self-directed approach to personal success and job-search processes.
• Provide quality services to student with disabilities
• Provide quality ATOD services to students, faculty, and staff.
• Provide Diversity Service program for all members of the University community.
• The "image" of Career and Counseling Department will be one of professionalism and delivery of quality services for all students, faculty/staff, employers, alumni, parents and special populations.
