NCA Focus Visit
The North Central Association of Colleges and Schools will be conducting a Focus Visit and a Distance Education Accreditation Review at UMC on March 27th and 28th, 2000.  The NCA Team is composed of

  • Dr. Robert Reid, Vice President for Academic Affairs
    University of Southern Indiana
  • Dr. Jerry Beasley, President
    Concord College
  • Dr. Delbert Ringquist, Dean, College of Extended Learning
    Central Michigan University.

In the near future, they will be providing us a schedule and itinerary for their visit.

When UMC was accredited by the NCA to provide Baccalaureate Degrees (1995), the NCA decided that it would be helpful to examine how the campus was accomplishing it’s new mission by having a Focused Evaluation in five years. This process allows us to examine how we are doing at this time and to set the stage for our re-accreditation visit in the year 2005.

In addition to this focus visit, accreditation is being sought for distance delivered degree programs so that further development of distance education opportunities can be pursued.

The UMC NCA web site is <http://www.umcrookston.edu/UMCadmin/AcademicAff/NCA/>   At this site you can link to a copy of the report that has been sent to the committee and to several additional documents that are supporting this activity.

Rand Rasmussen Reappointment Review
A committee has been formed to complete a reappointment review for Rand Rasmussen, Student Support Services Director.  The periodic review is a broader, more intensive evaluation of an individual's job performance than the annual evaluation. Scott Oliver, chairperson, and committee members Mary Feller (Admissions), Ken Myers (HRI), and Nadine Raddatz (student) will be gathering appropriate performance data and evaluations and invite comments from the UMC community on Rand's job performance.

A New Service from UMC Printing
We are now able to print U of M stationery and envelopes at our print shop.  We estimate that your print order will be completed in 1-2 weeks from date of receipt.  Some of the benefits of having your stationery printed on campus include:

  • less expensive (approximately half the cost of ordering from the Twin Cities campus)
  • you may order as little as 250 stationery or envelopes at a time

Send your stationery/envelope request to UMC Printing, and if you have questions, call Sue x8401, Patti x8402, or Linda x8403.

Faculty/Staff Accolades

  • Thank you to Ardell Knudsvig from ADawn Melbye, Agricultural Education Instructor at Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls, Minnesota.

“On behalf of the agricultural education program at Lincoln High School, I am pleased to offer a heartfelt thank you for the time and effort you extended to the students of the agricultural education program.

“Your donation of time and effort exemplifies your willingness to help the agricultural education program impact young peoples lives in a positive and educational manner.  The labs were those that provide skills that students would not receive here at Lincoln because of the facilities and equipment.  The students had a wonderful time and are eager to do more labs.

“Please allow me to simply say thank you for making a difference in the Thief River Falls agricultural education program.”
