Planning for Student Services Teleconference
All faculty and staff are invited to attend the Planning for Student Services:  Best Practices for the 21st Century teleconference scheduled for Thursday, February 10, 2000 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. CST in Sahlstrom Conference Center AB.

In light of globalization, technology advancements, decreased funding, competition and changing demographics, colleges and universities must transform their institutions for the future.  Through case studies, this live, interactive event will demonstrate how five institutions are transforming from a traditional model into a learner-centered model to provide superior service to students.

Black History Month
Since 1978, February has been celebrated as Black History Month in the United States.  The celebration originated in 1926 at the suggestion of Carter G. Woodson, a Black historian.  This occasion has been used to draw attention to the history of African art, music and literature, or the progress that African-Americans have made in America.

In commemoration of Black History Month, UMC has scheduled the following events:

Thursday, February 10
11:30 a.m., Sahlstrom Conference Center 131
“Black Excellence:  The Leaders”
Videotape (35 minutes) followed by a short discussion.  Dining Services will be featuring African-American cuisine for lunch.

Tuesday, February 15
11:30 a.m., Sahlstrom Conference Center AB

“Striving for Freedom”

Speaker Rev. Walter McDuffy, Assistant Dean of Students, Concordia College, Moorhead.
African-American cuisine will be featured for lunch.

Wednesday, February 23
11:30 a.m., Sahlstrom Conference Center 131

“Black Excellence:  The Entrepreneurs”

Videotape (34 minutes) followed by a guided discussion.  African-American cuisine will be featured for lunch.

Please come and celebrate with us!
