League Hockey Title
This past weekend
the UMC hockey team mathematically clinched the MCHA regular
season title with the wins over Lawrence University
(we have two league games remaining with Northland
College, Ashland, WI).
In Concert
A unique concert
will be held on Tuesday, January 25, 2000, 7 p.m., at
Kiehle Auditorium. Under the title, The Living Roots
of Music, Lauren Pelon performs music from the 1st
to the 20th centuries. Pelon is a vocalist as
well.

Ag-Arama Set for UMC
The 25th
Annual Ag-Arama will be held January 20-21 and January
28-29 at UMC. Ag-Arama provides students the opportunity
to showcase their knowledge and skills in their
individual interest areas. On Saturday, January 29, a
multiple of events occur starting with Animal Science
Showmanship competitions as well as an Ag Industries
show. Games are going on throughout the day for young and
old. There will be an obstacle course, cow milking
contest, bucking barrel, match splitting, caber toss,
pitchfork throw, and much more.
This event is sponsored by
the Ag-Arama Club and is open to the public. In addition,
there are Royalty chosen to reign over the event.
Saturday evening a dance will be held at the Crookston
Armory from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. with a $5 cover charge.
New Mileage Rates
We received
notification from the University that effective January
1, 2000, the mileage reimbursement rates have changed
according to IRS regulations. Effective January 1, 2000,
the following reimbursement rates are in effect for UMC:
- $.32.5 reimbursement
per mile when driving personal car and no fleet
car is available
- $.28.5 reimbursement
per mile when driving personal car and there was
a fleet car available
We will work to make
corrections/adjustments to any reimbursement requests
that have already been submitted for travel since January
1st to reflect the appropriate reimbursements.
Please use the new rates on any future reimbursement
requests.

AP Photo Archive
The UMC Library is
now subscribing to the AP Photo Archive. The Photo
Archive is an electronic library containing the AP's
current photos and a selection of pictures from their 50
million image print and negative library. The archive is
searchable and downloadable. It can be accessed at http://www.umcrookston.edu/library/links/databases.htm. It will be the bottom selection.

Faculty and Staff Accolades
- Carolyn Weber
and her Twin City counterpart, Marci McLaughlin
will travel to Washington D.C. to make a
presentation at the National Rural Development
Conference, March 6-7. The presentation will be
on building rural-urban relationships. Chancellor
Sargeant will be introducing Carolyn and
Marci to the conference attendees.
UMC Insight
UMC Insight will
be aired Saturday, January 22, at 8:45 a.m. on KROX (AM
1260). Tune in this week to hear "The Living Roots
of Music" with Lauren Pelon. UMC Insight is hosted
by Curt Almlie.
