Four $5,000 Scholarships to be Given to UMC Students
Michael A. Chowdry, founder of
Atlas Air Inc., which provides cargo services to major
airlines all over the world, and a 1978 UMC graduate in
Agricultural Aviation, has donated funds to award four
$5,000 scholarships annually to aspiring UMC student
entrepreneurs. One scholarship will be available to a new
freshman student, and one each to a returning sophomore,
junior, and senior student. The deadline to apply for
these scholarships is 8 a.m., Monday, October 26.

Pop and Brats
The Teambackers, recognizing
Alcohol Awareness Week at UMC, will serve pop and brats
before the UMC/Jamestown football game Saturday, October
24, beginning at 12 noon. Charge is $2. Come out and help
us cheer the Golden Eagles on the victory.

An Obsession to
Die For
"An Obsession to Die For:
An Eating Disorder" presentation will be held at UMC
on Tuesday, October 27, at 7 p.m. in Bede Ballroom.
Sponsored by UMC Concerts and Lectures and Student
Health, the presentation is free and open to the public.
"An Obsession to Die For" is
a must see presentation for individuals of all ages, both
young and old. In the presentation Christine Nicklaus
shares with surprising candor and sincerity how her
battle with bulimia and anorexia almost cost her life.

Flu Shots
It's that time of year again -
Cold and Flu season. Two flu shot clinics will be offered
again this year. In order to provide better service, two
nurses from Polk County Nursing Service will be on campus
both days providing flu shots.

The health and cost benefits of an
annual flu shot for healthy, working adults have been
demonstrated by a Minnesota-based research company,
published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Here's
what researchers found for healthy workers who got a flu
shot:
- 25% less upper respiratory illness
(URI)
- 43% fewer sick days due to URI
- 44% fewer doctor visits for URI
- estimated cost savings of $47 per
person
