State of University Address
State of the University address
by President Yudof will be presented at the U Senate
meeting TODAY, October 15, at 3 p.m. in Hill 15. Question
and answer session follows the address.

Campus Preview
A Campus Preview will be held
on Thursday and Friday, October 15 and 16. Prospective
students are invited to choose one of three sessions for
a tour of the campus and information session. The times
are at 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. both days. To confirm
an appointment, call Admissions and Financial Aid.

Comedy & Juggling Act
Three Guys Named Ed, a comedy
and juggling act with audience participation, will be at
UMC on Thursday, October 15, at 8 p.m. in Bede Ballroom.
Sponsored by Student Programming and Campus Entertainment
(SPACE), the performance is free and open to the public.

Employee Benefits Open Enrollment
Barry Melcher will be on campus
Friday, October 16th to help with retirement
planning and answer any questions regarding the State
Health Plan Select or Delta Dental coverage. All
employees are encouraged to attend the open forum from 12
noon to 1 p.m. in Sahlstrom Conference Center A. Barry
will make a brief presentation and leave time to answer
any questions you may have. Feel free to bring your
lunch.
Individual meetings can also be
scheduled by calling Jacquie at 8325 or Les at 8345. The
individual meetings will be held in Selvig Conference
Room 305.

Brown Bag Lunch Series at UMC
Bring your lunch and join us
from 12 noon to 1 p.m. in Kiehle 133 for the following
workshop:
October 20 - Coping with Chronic
Conditions - presented by Greg Alch, M.A., L.P., L.M.F.T.
from Southwest Family Services, Optum. This workshop
focuses on helpful coping mechanisms. Topics discussed
include loss and grief, difficult emotions, care of the
caregiver, living with uncertainty, and what helps in a
time of need.

Alcohol and Drug Awareness Week
Alcohol and Drug Awareness Week
will be held at UMC October 19 through 24. Schedule
includes:
Monday, October 19
- Information Table in Sahlstrom
Conference Center. Stop by and see videos and use
the computer simulation program.
- A presentation by Matthew Mims on
"Sex, Drugs and Alcohol: The Real College
Life?" will be at 7 p.m. in Bede Ballroom.
Tuesday, October 20
- Noon presentation in Brown Dining
Room AB on "DWI The Real
Influence." Presenters include: Lawyer David
Unkenholz, Police Officer Tim Motherway, and
Student James Becraft.

Be Advised -- Classes Cancelled!
On Wednesday, October 21st,
beginning at 1 p.m., afternoon classes will be cancelled
for a special half-day to be devoted to semester
conversion advising. Information and advising sessions
have been scheduled concerning UMC's change from a
quarter-based academic year to a semester-based year
beginning fall 1999. An all-campus session for students,
faculty, and interested staff is scheduled at 1 p.m. in
Kiehle Auditorium, followed at 1:30 by group sessions for
each program major, with individual advising sessions
between advisers and advisees scheduled to begin at 2:30.
Special prizes will be given to the first 200 students at
the opening session and refreshments will be provided to
students attending the program sessions. An information
table will be staffed in the Sahlstrom Conference Center
foyer to provide information and answer questions. Look
for posters on campus for the locations of the program
major advising sessions.

Bison Men's Chorus to Perform at UMC
The Bison Mens Chorus
from the University of Manitoba will present a concert on
Sunday, October 25, at 3 p.m. in Kiehle Auditorium. The
UMC Choir will also sing a few selections. The concert is
a fund-raiser for the UMC Choir which will tour Europe in
March. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for students, with a
$10 family maximum. Please call 218-281-8266.

Assembly Date
Change
The Fall Quarter Campus
Assembly meeting that was scheduled for October 22 has
been changed to Thursday, November 5 at 4 p.m. in Dowell
Hall 212. Refreshments will be available at 3:30 p.m.

Free Lunch!
Dining Services offers a one
time opportunity to all faculty, staff and off-campus
students. The first time a customer opens a declining
balance account, Dining Services adds 10% of the original
amount to your account. The customer may have lunch on
Dining Services for a while. There is no limit to the
amount deposited. In the near future everyone will have
the opportunity to use their U-Card as the account card.
If you're interested in saving a few
dollars
then come on down and see Pam or Rhonda!

Speakers Needed
Resident Coordinator Linda
TagLiabue from the Villa St. Vincent is inviting speakers
to give afternoon presentations on varying topics to 30
residents at the Villa between 1 and 4 p.m. Students,
staff and faculty are all encouraged to partake in these
community service opportunities. To schedule a date or
