UMC OFFERS EMPLOYEE CAREER ENRICHMENT WORKSHOP

The workshop is designed specifically for employees at UMC and will include many opportunities for group participation. The workshop will define career development, help you assess your individual skills using the Campbell survey, help you explore the world of work, identify and overcome barriers to success, provide networking tips, and explain how you can take a proactive role in your own career development. It will be broadcast from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus through ITV with an on-site facilitator here to lead group discussions and exercises.

The workshop is open to all UMC employees and will occur on four consecutive Mondays from 12 noon until 2 p.m. in Kiehle, room 133. A light lunch will be provided.

FACULTY ASSOCIATION
The Faculty Association met on Thursday, September 3, at 3:30 p.m. Those present included President Lynne Mullins, Secretary-Treasurer George French, Ken Myers, Marilyn Grave, Phil Baird, Vern Markey, Cleon Melsa, Marsha Odom, Dave Hoff, and Lyle Westrom.

The group talked about potential topics that include workload, post-tenure review, insight from neighboring schools on semester conversion, and constitution and by-laws issues. It was moved by Lyle Westrom and seconded by Dave Hoff that the president of the Faculty Association should be on the Academic Coordinating Committee (ACC). Passed. Several faculty members will be asked if they wish to serve on the nominating committee. Faculty Association meetings will be scheduled periodically during the school year.

Dues remain at $25 per year. It has been decided that those who paid their dues during the winter and spring quarter last year would in effect have paid their dues for the 1998-99 school year because the collecting of dues began so late in the school year. Current paid members of the Faculty Association include Dan Svedarsky, Larry Leake, David Crawford, Dave Hoff, Lyle Westrom, Marsha Odom, Phil Baird, Twyla Treanor, Jerry Knutson, Bill Peterson, and Lynne Mullins. Members who had paid for the 1997-98 school year and whose paid membership has expired include George French, Richard Christenson, Marilyn Grave, Paul Holm, Larry Huus, Robert Johnson, Wendell Johnson, and Sharon Stewart.

Checks may be made out to the Faculty Association and sent to George French. The current balance is $469.36.
