Murder at Sunset Lodge
"Murder at Sunset Lodge" will be performed February 12 through 15 in Kiehle auditorium. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. each evening except Sunday when there will be a matinee performance at 3 p.m. The play is written and directed by UMC student Eric Perkins.

Music and Dance Demonstration
A demonstration of music and dance featuring the Norwegian Hardanger fiddle will be presented Monday, February 15, at 12 noon in Bede Ballroom. The performance is free and open to the public.

The program begins with a Hardanger fiddle concert by Olav Jo/rgan Hegge, known as a tradition bearer from the district of Valdres, Norway. A champion dancer along with his wife Mary, he will dance the Valdresspringar accompanied by Hardanger fiddler Karen Torkelson Solgaard of Minneapolis. The concert is followed by a demonstration.

Expanded Library Hours
Beginning Saturday, February 13, the UMC library will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Following are the new library hours:

Monday - Thursday 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Saturday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Sunday 5 to 9 p.m.

Farm Alarm: Coping with Stress
A theatrical presentation addresses stress reduction, safety messages to farm families. Although entertainment is the main purpose of most theater productions, a new play about stress also has the health and safety of Minnesota farm families in mind. The play will be presented on Friday, February 19, at 6 p.m. in Brown Dining Hall. The performance is free and open to the public. A light supper will be served, also free of charge.

Alumni and friends of UMC and the Northwest School of Agriculture are invited to a Texas social and luncheon on February 23, in the Golden Corral in McAllen, TX. The event begins at 10 a.m. For more information contact 218-281-8438.

Brown Bag Lunch Series at UMC
Bring your lunch and join us from 12 noon to 1 p.m. on February 25 in 133 Kiehle Hall for the following workshop: Investment Basics Workshop, presented by Fidelity Investments. This workshop will discuss investing concerns, understanding market fluctuations, diversifying your investments, mutual funds, annuities, setting objectives, steps to successful investment planning, and managing your investments for retirement.

Bergland Honored
Bob Bergland will receive the 12th Builder of the Valley Award at the Annual Honor Banquet sponsored by the MN Red River Valley Development Association, on Saturday, February 27, beginning at 12 noon in Sahlstrom Conference Center.

Bob is currently serving as a Regent of the University of Minnesota. He is being honored for his community service including serving as a Congressman in the House of Representatives, serving as US Secretary of Agriculture in the Carter Administration, serving as President of Farmland World Trade, and serving as General Manager of the National Rural Electric Co-operative Association.

Rotary International Scholarship
The Crookston Rotary Club announces the availability of Ambassadorial Scholarships for the 2000-2001 academic year. These scholarships are worth up to $23,000 each and are offered through Rotary International District 5580 Scholarships Committee.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Have a college grade point average of 3.4 or higher
  • Be a college senior or a college graduate
  • Be interested in advanced study overseas
  • The candidate cannot be related to a Rotarian
  • While not required, candidates with fluency in a foreign language seem to have an advantage in the competition
