CAMPUS AUCTION SALE TODAY
Plant Services organized an auction sale to be held on campus
today, Thursday, October 2, beginning at 11 a.m. Furniture,
equipment, and vehicles that are no longer used by the University
will be on sale. As in the past, the sale will take place in
front of the storage garages just north of Kiser Building.

DIVERSITY VIDEO TELECONFERENCE
CANCELED
Regretfully, the Diversity Video Teleconference scheduled
today, Thursday, October 2, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon has been
canceled due to circumstances beyond our control.

RASMUSSEN
APPOINTED STUDENT SUPPORT
SERVICES DIRECTOR
Rand Rasmussen has been appointed as Director of Student
Support Services (SSS). Rand's appointment begins October 1, and
he will initially have his office in the Academic Assistance
Center, 217 Owen Hall. Dr. Rasmussen has a B.A. degree in
Interpersonal Communication from St. Cloud State, a M.S. degree
in Counseling from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, and a Ph.D.
in Counseling from the University of North Dakota. Rand has
considerable clinical experience and most recently served as the
Director of Student Support Services at Mayville State
University.
SSS is a Department of Education grant program that will provide counseling, faculty and peer tutoring and mentoring, and academic and supportive services to low income, first generation and disabled students in order to increase their retention and graduation rates.
Two adviser/counselors and an administrative
assistant will also soon be hired.

COMMUNITY FUNDRAISING
CAMPAIGN UNDERWAY
In conjunction with the Crookston United Way campaign,
volunteers from UMC are again serving as campaign captains.
Captains will soon be delivering a packet of information to each
UMC employee. In the packet you will find:
Please return the pledge/payroll deduction form in the return envelope. (If you choose no contribution, please indicate this on the form and return it.)
The United Way goal this year for UMC is
$5,600, and I will report on our progress in the Bulletin. Thank
you to everyone for your consideration.

HYPNOTIST AT UMC
Hypnotist Fred Winters will perform Monday, October 6, at 8
p.m. in Bede Ballroom. Sponsored by Student Activities, the event
is free and open to the public.

UMC OUTSTANDING ALUMNI BRUNCH
Faculty and staff are invited to the UMC Outstanding Alumni
Reception and Brunch on Saturday, October 11, beginning at 10
a.m. To make a reservation, call the White House Alumni Center at

CAMPUS ASSEMBLY
Please mark your calendars. Following are the dates for the
Campus Assembly meetings for the 1997-98 school year:

All meetings will be held in Dowell Hall 212 at
4 p.m. Refreshments will be available before the meeting. We hope

FITNESS CENTER
The UMC Fitness Center is now open Monday through Saturday, 4
to 9 p.m. Soon the center will be open weekdays from 11 a.m. to 1
p.m. as well. Saturday the Center is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Please renew your fall quarter membership. Cost is $15 per
quarter for UMC employees -- $40 for a family membership per
quarter. To purchase a membership or if you have any questions
about the center, please contact me at 8416.

UMC FACULTY AND STAFF GOLF OUTING
On Tuesday, September 24, we had a beautiful day with a total
of 24 golfers participating in our event. We had 12 women and 12
men, which made a perfect foursome of 6 teams. Next year, if we
schedule the event the first week of September before fall
quarter classes begin, we may have more individuals able to
participate in this fun outing.
