Funny Money will be performed by UMCs Music/Theater
Department February 19 through 22 in Kiehle Auditorium.
Performances on Thursday through Saturday are at 7:30 p.m. with
the Sunday performance at 3 p.m.
In the play, Henry Perkins picks up the wrong briefcase on the subway, and it contains 735,000 pounds. When he finally gets home for the birthday dinner his wife has planned, he quickly books air flights out of the country. From then on pure insanity develops, as the Perkins' friends show up for dinner, the cab driver comes to take them to the airport, and two police sergeants show up, neither of them know about the money, but everybody thinks that they do! It is a hilarious British comedy sure to keep everyone in stitches.
Cast members include: Darci Delage of Brooks, Matt Smith of Wheaton, Scott Wright of Warroad, Morgan Walsh of Red Lake Falls, Margaret Harrington of Crookston, Nick Dufault of Crookston and Eric Perkins of Crookston.
Tickets are $3 for adults and $2 for students.

SURVEY RESULTS
In December, employees at UMC participated in a staff survey
which was designed to help the Professional Development Workgroup
identify training needs on the campus. A total of 95 surveys were
completed and returned. The workgroup wishes to thank the many
faculty and staff who took time from their busy day to complete
and return the survey. The responses were weighted as follows:
three points were assigned to 1-most important response,
two points were assigned to 2-second most important
response, and one point was assigned to 3-third most important
response. Below is a summary of the survey results. Feel free to
contact Les Johnson at 8345 if you have questions or if you would
like more detailed report.
The most important people/process areas of training identified by faculty and staff were:
- Improving communications and cooperation on campus - 120 points
- Keeping up with job challenges - 75 points
- Retirement/health/dental/life insurance and other employee benefits - 72 points
- Grant writing skills and the process of identifying appropriate sources of funding - 55 points
- Securing financial assistance to attend specialized training - 55 points
- Stress management and/or time management skills - 54 points
The most important technology/equipment areas of training identified by faculty and staff were:
- Office 98 basics (Word, Excel, and Powerpoint) - 124 points
- Setting up a home page and/or access information on the internet - 85 points
- Delivering/presenting/setting up classes/tests on the www - 80 points
- Using specialized hardware (e.g. digital camera, CD player, etc.) - 62 points
Of those that responded, 74.19% indicated that
they would be willing to invest 1 to 12 hours per quarter to
attend training on the topics selected. Seventy-four percent of
those who responded stated that they were aware of who to contact
to get information regarding financial assistance to attend
training, workshops, conferences, and/or Regent's Scholarships.

WOMENS
LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE
The Womens Leadership Institute will begin September
1998 and conclude June 1999. The Institute is a unique set of
training opportunities emphasizing the creation of a community of
mutual learning and support through the development of a
"cohort" of women at similar points in their careers at
the University. Participants will take part in a combination of
lectures and small group activities on topics relevant to women
who have just moved into administrative or management roles at
the University or are interested in making such a move.
This is a pilot year. Organizers will work closely with participants to listen to suggestions for the future shape the Institute could take. Successful applicants will be asked to commit approximately five hours a month for the duration of the program. Applications are due by March 30, and successful applicants will be informed by the end of the 1997/98 academic year.
For more information contact me through the
Commission on Women at 612-626-9238 or by e-mail: murra028@tc.umn.edu
