The UMC/NWES/AURI United Way pledges received are at 105 percent of the 1997 goals that were established by the United Way Office. Thank you all for your support and generosity towards this effort!

Overview from program release:
"The World Wide Web has captured the attention of education no less than business, government, and the arts world. Five distinguished presenters from three institutions will offer their insights into using the Web for instruction from the perspectives of collaborative learning, teacher preparation in bilingual math and science instruction, and planning for support services in an academic context.

"This videoconference will:

Increase your awareness of tools and techniques for creating useful and usable Web pages for instruction

Define and differentiate roles of faculty member and support facilities in supporting Web-based education

Identify quantitative and qualitative measures to evaluate effectiveness of materials and of student performance in Web-based course presentation

Demonstrate interactivity dimensions of Web-based courses, using concept maps among other mechanisms

Explore options for getting Web courses approved for credit.

"Who should participate: Administrators, faculty, and service (support) staff at institutions of higher education; professional trainers and others interested in teaching and learning using new media.

"Moderator: Dr. Nancy Frishberg, Executive Director, New Media Centers."

Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Marvin L. Marshak, will be visiting the UMC campus on Wednesday, December 18. All faculty and staff are invited to listen to his comments at a 12 noon luncheon in Conference Center A-B-C.

The UMC Choir and Band and Campus Ministry invite all faculty and staff to a Christmas program Wednesday, December 18, at 7:30 p.m. in Kiehle Auditorium.

RETIREMENT GIFT
If you wish to contribute towards a retirement gift for Mary Bywater, please bring your money to Karen Murphy in the business office by Monday, December 16. A retirement party will be held Friday, December 20, from 2 to 4 p.m. in CC A&B.
