NW MINNESOTA HOSPITALITY CONFERENCE ON MAY 12
The NW Minnesota Hospitality Conference has been rescheduled to Monday, May 12, from 9
a.m. - 5 p.m., at the Northland Inn in Crookston.

PIANIST TO PERFORM AT UMC
Jose Poneira, outstanding pianist from Winnipeg, Manitoba, will present a program Monday,
May 12, at 7:30 p.m. in Kiehle auditorium. The concert is free.

UMC COMMISSION ON WOMEN SEMINAR
"A Celebration of Women" recognizing UMC women based on nominations and
recommendations from their peers, will be presented Thursday, May 15, from 12 noon to 1
p.m. in Conference Center ABC.
Bring your own lunch. UMCs Commission on Women will have
cappuccino and other specialty drinks, an assortment of desserts, and fruit.

COMMENCEMENT
Commencement exercises for the University of Minnesota, Crookston will be held at 2 p.m.
Friday, May 23, on the campus mall (or in Lysaker Gymnasium in case of rain).
Baccalaureate, associate in applied science and associate in science degrees will be conferred upon graduates, subject to completion of all curriculum requirements. The ceremonies include not only spring quarter graduates, but also those who plan to complete graduation requirements during the 1997 summer and fall quarters. Students graduating during the past fall and winter quarters may also participate in commencement ceremonies.
A special feature of this years commencement is the recognition of
the first masters degrees in Human Resource Development offered through UMC using distance
education technology.

SAMSHAL RETIRES
Milan Samshal will be retiring on July 6 with 27 years of service to the University of
Minnesota. He will be honored at the campus-wide reception in Bede Ballroom on Monday, May
12. Anyone wishing to contribute to a retirement gift for Milan should bring it to Patti
Malme at the Northwest Experiment Station by noon on Friday, May 9th.

FAREWELL RECEPTION FOR GLENICE JOHNSON
Please join us in a farewell reception for Glenice Johnson on Wednesday, May 28, at 3 p.m.
in Conference Center ABC. Glenice is leaving UMC to become an Extension Educator for the
Pennington County Extension Office in Thief River Falls, MN. If you wish to contribute
toward a gift for Glenice, please drop your contribution off with Trish or Marsha in the
Arts and Sciences Division Office by May 23.
