LYRIC PIANO DUO
The Lyric Piano Duo will appear in concert in Kiehle Auditorium
on Sunday, March 16, at 7:30 p.m. The program will include songs
and arias in French, German and Italian as well as solo piano
works by Mozart, Schubert, Chopin and Ravel. Lyric coloratura
soprano Eva Peng and pianist Anthony Olson formed the Lyric Piano
Duo shortly after their marriage and have toured the United
States as well as central and southern China. Tickets are $5 for
adults, $2 for students and children, and free for UMC students.

IRELAND TOPIC FOR UMC
INTERNATIONAL SERIES
"Ireland: A Students Journey Across the Emerald
Isle," will be presented by Patrick Wilson, a senior at
Gustavus Adolphus College, and son of Dan and Laurie Wilson of
Crookston, on Monday, March 17, as part of UMCs
International Series. The evening begins at 6 p.m. with an ethnic
dinner for $7, followed by a 7 p.m. program in Brown Dining Room
of the UMC Conference Center. To reserve a place at the dinner,

Advanced Investment Strategies: Examining Investment Risk
Tuesday, March 18, noon to 1 p.m. in Kiehle 133
A key component to successful investing is managing risk. With the expertise offered in this seminar, youll be able to make more informed investment decisions. This seminar will teach you how to determine investment risk and return characteristics for asset classes; how to quantify risk; and how diversification and optimization reduce risk.

A TRIBAL GATHERING OF MUSIC AT
UMC
A Tribal Gathering of Music with Paul LaRoche will be held
Tuesday, March 18, at 7:30 p.m. in Bede Ballroom. The tribal
gathering is a blend of contemporary and traditional native songs
from various North American Tribes. The gathering is free for all
UMC faculty, staff and students, or $2 for the general public.

US OLYMPIC GYMNAST AT UMC
John Roethlisberger, 1996 U.S. Olympic gymnast, will be at UMC
March 25 and 26 for a gymnastic demonstration and motivational
speech.

OSHA AND MERTKA SAFETY TRAINING
UMC and NWES will have required OSHA and MERTKA safety training
on the following subjects: ASBESTOS AWARENESS presented by Dave
Klosterman, Asbestos Specialist; WORKERS PROTECTION STANDARD
presented by Dean Herzfeld with Department of Plant Pathology;
and the third module is CONFINED SPACE - Practical Training
(Hands On) with Dan Sielger, Loss Prevention Manager, and Greg
Casura, Occupational Health & Safety Specialist, doing the
training.

The Asbestos Awareness is primarily geared to custodial and maintenance personnel and supervisors but beneficial to all University personnel working in future renovation and abatement areas (which includes the buildings of Dowell Annex, Kiehle, Selvig, Bede and NWES Ag Research Center). We would like to encourage the majority of personnel to attend on Tuesday due to room seating.
The Workers Protection Standard (which was postponed last fall) is for employees working in greenhouses, field research, animal research or handling, grounds, and labs which work with pesticides.
Confined Space is specifically geared for only certain individuals authorized to enter confined areas. They will be at different locationsevaluating equipment and procedure issues.

Dave Swanson, employee benefits specialist, from the Twin Cities
Campus will be at UMC on Friday, April 25. He will be available

benefits, dental benefits, disability benefits, retirement

SPAETH RECEIVES GRANT
Congratulations to Sonia Spaeth for receiving a Service-Learning
grant from Campus Compact for her Drawing and Design Class to
help with the Crookston Art Mural project. This mural will be
painted on the side of the Grand Theater and involves two other
organizations in Crookston. Congratulations Sonia.
