These documents are: (1) Conversion from a Quarter Based Academic Year to a Semester Based Academic Year; Principles and Guidelines, (2) Semester Conversion; Overview, Principles, Conditions and Procedures for Curriculum Review, and (3) Semester Schedule Time Patterns and Rules. --Bob Nelson, Semester Conversion Coordinator UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES PROGRAM UROP application material is now available from the following individuals: Connie Batten, Information Networking Management; Arlyss Grosz, Health Management; Melissa Hower, Equine Science; Richard Nelson, Agricultural Management; Marsha Odom, Technical Studies; Chris Robberts, Processing Technology; Robert Smith, Management. Completed applications should be returned to the Academic Affairs Office by 4:30 p.m. on April 1 (late applications will not be accepted). UROP offers financial awards to undergraduate students for research, scholarly, or creative projects undertaken in partnership with a faculty member. UROP affords undergraduates the unique educational experience of collaborating with a faculty member on the design and implementation of a project. It encourages students to conduct research and pursue academic interests outside of their regular courses by employing them to work on special projects. UROP applications are judged on the quality of the proposed project and the educational benefit to the student. --Executive Committee, UMC USA FINANCIAL WORKSHOP Advanced Asset Allocation: Beyond the Basics by Elizabeth Heffernan, Fidelity Tuesday, March 4, noon to 1 p.m. in Kiehle 133. This session will help you, a knowledgeable investor; plan for investment selection and allocation, maximize returns for individual risk levels, avoid duplicating investments, and shift investments to keep your strategy on target. You should understand investments and investment terminology, but want help in understanding technical analysis of asset allocation. Workshop is presented by the Office of Human Resources, Employee Benefits and transmitted using the ITV network to UMC from the Twin Cities. --Les Johnson COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW FOR VICE CHANCELLOR DEAN McCLEARY In accordance with University policy, Chancellor Sargeant has appointed a review committee to collect and evaluate information concerning Dean McCleary in his role as Vice Chancellor for Finance at UMC. The members of the review committee are: Al Larson, chair Larry Huus Kathe Lemmerman Soo-Yin Lim-Thompson Andy Dumas The committee will be soliciting input from faculty, staff, students, and other constituents in the near future. --Allan Larson UNIVERSITY ANNOUNCES K-12 TECHNOLOGY PARTNERSHIP GRANT Using technology to improve K-12 education in Northwest Minnesota is the goal of a new University of Minnesota project, announced by President Nils Hasselmo during his visit to Crookston on Wednesday. The University's College of Education and Human Development in Minneapolis and the Crookston Campus will partner to design and deliver education programs for K-12 teachers. Emphasis will be on using computer technology and the Internet to improve teaching and learning of core subjects including social studies, reading, and math. --Barbara Muesing STUDENT SERVICE AWARDS Faculty and staff are asked to nominate students for this year's Student Service Awards (see attachment to this Bulletin). If you have questions, please call me at 8180. --Robbie McGurran UMC ALUMNI ASSOCIATION PHONATHON The UMC Alumni Association will hold its annual phonathon March 17-22. As faculty and staff you had the opportunity to relate to many of the alumni and your help is of great importance. Students will remember you and will be very appreciative of your call. All calling will take place at the White House. Eleven phones will be in service for the duration of the phonathon. All alumni who are scheduled to be called will have received a letter indicating that they will be called during the phonathon, therefore no cold canvass calling. Prior to beginning the calling, a review of phonathon techniques will be held. As in the past we are asking for volunteers to assist one evening from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. during the week or from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 22. SARGEANTS/OSETH ENTER HALL OF FAME Congratulations to Don and Mary Beth Sargeant and Barbara Oseth who were inducted into the Red River Valley Winter Shows Hall of Fame.
