UMC RECEIVES 1996 CHAMBER AWARD
At the Crookston Chamber of Commerce annual banquet on February 3rd, UMC was presented with the annual "progress award." This award is given to a business or organization that has made significant progress over the past several years and has had an impact on the Crookston community. We were recognized for our move to a four-year institution, for our innovative technology strategy, and for our commitment to excellence. The Chamber congratulated all of us for the progress that this institution has made and for the important role we play in the community. Congratulations!

MILEAGE RATE CHANGES
In response to a change in the IRS mileage reimbursement rates, the University has adjusted the mileage reimbursement for use of personal vehicles for University business.
Effective 1/1/97:
1) The mileage reimbursement when driving a personal car and no fleet car is available is $.315 per mile. (Increased from $.26)
2) The mileage reimbursement when driving a personal car when a fleet car was available is $.275 per mile. (Increased from $.22)
Also, In response to increased costs associated with maintaining and replacing fleet vehicles, the following rate changes will become effective 2/1/97:

Cars .22/mile $5 flat fee plus $.22/mile Wagons .25/mile $5 flat fee plus $.22/mile Vans .30/mile $5 flat fee plus $.30/mile

ISHA HORSE SHOW
UMC’s Intercollegiate Horse Show Association will host its first home show on Saturday, February 8, at 9 o’clock in the University Teaching and Outreach Center. Please come and support UMC’s Riding Team as they lead the region.

SNOWDAZE FEBRUARY 10-14
SnowDaze will take place at UMC February 10 through 14. Events are scheduled throughout the week culminating with the King and Queen Coronation and Dance with The Vees on Friday.

NON-U.S. CITIZENS MUST FILE TAX REPORTS
All international scholars and students must file income tax reports for the 1996 tax year by April 15, 1997, whether or not they earned income in the United States.
Tax forms 1040NR or 1040NRE can be downloaded over the web from

or they can be picked up at the International Office, Hill 12.
