Meeting
with Senior Vice President Jones April 6
TO: UMC Faculty,
Staff, and Students
FROM: Robert J. Jones, Senior Vice President for System Administration
RE: Our Meeting on Wednesday, April 6, 1:15-2:30 p.m., Brown Dining
Room
“I welcome the
opportunity to meet with you to discuss the upcoming UMC strategic
positioning process and to obtain your comments and suggestions at a
campus-wide meeting on Wednesday, April 6, 1:15-2:30 p.m., Brown
Dining Room. I hope that you will be able to attend Wednesday’s
meeting as this meeting is an important step in helping to develop the
process and to engage UMC’s faculty, staff and students in defining its
future. These are important times in higher education and this process
will be an integral part of the University’s system-wide strategic
positioning plan to continue its unique mission into the 21st
century.
“You may recall that
President Robert Bruininks and I spoke to UMC last December as part of
the University-wide strategic positioning process affecting each
coordinate campus. President Bruininks asked that I begin to work with
the Crookston campus to help UMC position itself for the 21st
century. I began by establishing a committee to gather information and
develop a background report analyzing current trends affecting UMC and
its region. This report is available on a new Web site:
http://www.academic.umn.edu/crookston_strategic.
“In addition, to
support both UMC and Central Administration in crafting UMC’s new
long-term strategic position, my office has commissioned an independent
consulting firm, the Public Strategies Group (PSG), to supplement UMC’s
strategic positioning initiatives by developing a series of design
alternatives. Detailed information regarding the overall strategic
positioning process and related operating assumptions, reports, and a
timeline, is available on the above website. The Web site also provides
an opportunity for your feedback.
“Joining me at
Wednesday’s meeting will be CEO Joe Massey and PSG lead consultant Rick
Heydinger. After a short overview of the upcoming process with you, we
plan to devote the majority of the meeting to answering your questions
and obtaining your input and advice. I ask that you please visit the
above Web site and review this information prior to our meeting to
facilitate an informed, engaged, and fruitful discussion.
“I look forward to
meeting with you on Wednesday afternoon, and I invite you to share your
ideas, comments, and suggestions with us at this meeting and
throughout the process over the coming months as we move forward to
re-position UMC in the 21st century to best continue to serve
both the region and the state.”
