Holidays Around the World December
12
In order to foster campus awareness and appreciation of cultural
diversity, the UMC Multicultural and International Club will host a
special What’s on Wednesday (W.O.W.) event “Holidays Around the World”
on Wednesday, December 12, starting at 8 p.m. in Bede Lounge. Club
members will serve a variety of goodies such as coffee, Indian tea,
hot chocolate, ethnic food and cakes, as well as music and different
kind of films from different countries. This activity offers the UMC
community a taste of the exciting realm of the food, music, dance, and
video popular in the home countries of international students
currently attending UMC.
Christmas

December 13
Students involved with the Music and Theater Department and
Cooperative Campus Ministry will host their annual Christmas concert
Thursday, December 13, at 7:30 p.m. in Bede Ballroom. Admission is free and
those attending can enjoy hot cider and holiday treats. The event will
feature readings from students from Campus Ministry as well as musical

Annual Staff Potluck Set for December
21
The annual campus community employee
seasonal celebration potluck dinner will be held on Friday, December 21,
from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Morsels, Sahlstrom Conference Center.
All faculty and staff are invited including UMC,
NWROC, Minnesota Extension (Polk County, Area and
District), Valley Technology Park and AURI also. All are encouraged to bring any food
items they wish. Food should be brought to Morsels at 11:00 a.m.
Refrigerators and ovens are available in the kitchen and hookups for
crock pots are also available.
Anyone who would like
to take part in the White Elephant Gift Exchange should bring a
“white elephant” gift of garage sale quality. If you bring a gift,
you'll get a number. Once your number's drawn, you select your
gift--either from the tree or you can steal from someone else! It's
really quite fun! The gift exchange will start at noon.
Faculty and staff are
also encouraged to bring nonperishable food items for the local food
bank. Please join us for some fun and fellowship!

The onsite sessions of
the Spring Institute will be on January 7-8, 2002. The distance modules
consisting of synchronous and asynchronous formats will be delivered
over the web from January 9 to June 30, 2002. The two courses can be

of M system. Contact Jane Sims at the Center for Adult Learning for
details.
U of M Multi-College Student
Technology Experience Report
In the spring of 2001 the U of M, Twin Cities’ Digital Media Center
(DMC) and several colleges surveyed students (from a 1100 student
sample) to determine the impact of instructional technology (IT) on
their education. The survey was conducted to provide administrators and
faculty and information technology staff members with data that can
guide the University's use and support of IT.
The survey report is
available online at
http://dmc.umn.edu/about/student-eval/student-eval.shtml. This
report may be of interest to faculty and staff working within UMC’s
technology-rich environment and, perhaps, to faculty and staff working
with technology assessment issues.
