Legislative Action
for UMC’s Bede Project
Now is the time to contact your
legislators as they prepare for the 2002 session. Your calls to
advocate for the University of Minnesota, Crookston capital bonding
request will help sustain UMC's Bede Building Project. To find out more
about the Bede Building Project, you may refer to

Portfolio and APAS
We are excited to inform you that
the new and improved Portfolio is available to the University
community. Portfolio is a web-based information management tool that
enables users to create, access, reflect upon, and share educational
records and documents demonstrating learning achievements. Every
faculty, staff, and student at the University of Minnesota has a
Portfolio account, which can be accessed at
https://portfolio.umn.edu/portfolio/.
The new version of
Portfolio has a new look and feel, and it contains an up-to-date display
of PeopleSoft student administration information (SAS). Students can
check their education record, queue time, holds, cumulative and term GPA
and other information from the student administration system. Advisers
of record will have access to view demographic and educational records
of their advisees from the SAS.
This project has been a
collaborative effort of the UMD Office of Academic Support and Student
Life, the Office of the Registrar, UMTC Center for Teaching and Learning
Services, the Web Development Team, and the Portfolio Ad Hoc Advising
Group.
To further enhance the
available advising functionality, we are also providing students with
access to their APAS reports via the web. This functionality is for
students only; however, advisers can encourage their students to upload
their APAS to their Portfolios and to share them with their advisers.
This functionality is available as of October 31, 2001. Editor’s
note: students can generate their own APAS via a link from UMC’s web
registration website:
www.umcrookston.edu/register/register.htm.
Website Accessibility
In case you have not already seen
the draft document, here is the website for the Accessibility of
Information Technology Policy draft:
http://cap.umn.edu/ait. When you get to the main page, click on the
policy button in the format that you prefer.
According to members of the TC committee now
working on this document, UMC faculty and staff will have an opportunity
to learn more and contribute to the document later this fall either via
an ITV connection or a visit to campus by some of the committee members.
Please forward this site to anyone else that
I may have missed.

Office for Students with Disabilities
Concerts and Lectures
Cosponsorships
UMC’s
Concerts and Lectures Committee has budgeted money for this academic
year to offer two or three cosponsorships (of roughly $300-$400 each)
for academic program-related speakers. Faculty and staff who are
interested in bringing a program-specific speaker to campus and who may
need additional money to make that happen are encouraged to submit a
proposal for cosponsorship to the Concerts and Lectures Committee. The
only stipulation would be that the speaker would then be open for the
entire campus community to attend his or her presentation. If you have
any questions, contact any member of the Concerts and Lectures
Committee. A membership list is available at the C&L website:
www.umcrookston.edu/people/org/concerts-lectures.
United
Way 2002
I would like to take this
opportunity to say thank you to all who have so generously given to this
year’s United Way, “Choose to Care.” We are close to fulfilling this
year’s goal due to your generosity.
For those of you who
have not yet done so, we ash that you would consider a pledge to the
United Way of Crookston. The money that you pledge will be used to help
keep our community strong and well supported in the future. Each day I
am thankful that I do not need to use the services which I am
supporting, but I also realize that tomorrow may be different and I am
happy to know that they are there for me if I need them.
The time is quickly
approaching when we, UMC, are to turn in our completed packet. Cindy,
Anne and Dennis would greatly appreciate your cooperation in bringing
United Way 2002 to a successful conclusion by filling out your pledge
card and getting it to the Business Office by the end of this week,
which is Friday, November 9. Again, we would like to remind you that we
would appreciate you turning in your pledge cards even if you chose not
to contribute. This will allow us to know that everyone was contacted.
Thanks again, and have
a good week.
--Cindy Tyler, Anne Burke and Dennis Magsam
