Summer Voice Mail Messages
Faculty and staff who are on 9
and 10-month contracts are reminded to create a new message for their
voice mail messaging system. If you do not plan to be on campus often
or do not plan to check your voice mail messages from home, please leave
a message that states so and provide a forwarding phone number of a
faculty or staff person who can take incoming calls. You may also want
to leave your personal forwarding summer phone number. A possible
example of such a message would be:
“Hi you’ve reached the voice mail of
Jane Doe at UMC. During the summer I will not be checking my voice mail
messages on a regular basis. If you need immediate assistance, please
contact John Doe at extension XXXX or dial 0 for the campus
switchboard. [Optional: If you need to contact me personally, you can
try my home number, 281-XXXX]. I will be back on campus full-time on
August XX. Have a great summer.”
Jr. High
Music Fest May 15
UMC will host its Tenth Annual
Regional Junior High Music Festival on Wednesday, May 15. Junior high
musicians from approximately ten area schools will take part in the
day-long performance festival. The event begins at 9 a.m. and will be
held in Bede Ballroom and Lysaker Gym. Contact George French at
281-8266 for more information.
Faculty and Staff Fund Drive
The
Annual UMC Faculty and Staff Fund Drive is on! Our goal this year is to
have the highest participation rate among the University of Minnesota
campuses. Please look for the fund drive information in your campus
mail. Complete the necessary form, and return it to the Development
Office as soon as possible. We are looking to have this stage of the
drive wrapped up by June 1. Prizes will be given to the individuals
that get their forms in first, so give early and give often.
Also, look for daily Fund Drive Trivia
coming soon. Yes, there will be prizes. Yes, chocolate is involved.
Thank you in advance for your support. If
you have any questions on how you can support your UMC, please
give us a call at 8434.

and Doors
UMC will celebrate a U of M
System first on Wednesday, May 15, with an evening graduation ceremony
for the first five graduates of the Bachelor of Manufacturing program
offered on-site at Marvin Windows and Doors in Warroad, Minnesota.
These five graduates are completing the first off-campus undergraduate
degree program in the University system. Regent Bob Bergland will
attend the event. UMC began offering the program at Marvin Windows in
1999. Students earn 15 credits per year in courses taught by UMC
faculty at the Warroad plant. Twenty-five students are currently
enrolled in the degree program. For more information contact Jane Sims,
Center for Adult Learning,
jsims@mail.crk.umn.edu or 218-281-8679.

Commencement Thank You
I want to express my sincere
appreciation for all of the work, hours, and energy that went into the
commencement ceremony on Saturday. To all the committee members a
special note of thanks. Sitting on the stage looking out over the
students and faculty, one very clearly becomes aware of the level of
dedication and personal contact that makes UMC a very special place for
our students. As the 2001-2002 academic year comes to a close, I want
to thank you for all that you do as a part of this academic community.
--Doug Knowlton, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
