Singer
Alex Goldfarb to Perform at UMC March 25

will perform at UMC Monday, March 25, at 8:00 p.m. in the Bede Hall
Student Lounge. The performance is open to the public. Admission is
free for UMC students with UCard ID and $2 for others.
The Minneapolis based
singer-songwriter’s performances have been called fierce, yet playful.
Goldfarb recorded his debut CD, “Magnifying Glass,” for the Painted Sun
label based in San Francisco. The CD consists mostly of Goldfarb's
vocals and percussive guitar playing. Hints of mandolin, Rhodes, and
percussion add to the mix and somehow fuse blues, jazz, and folk with
world music.
The performance is
sponsored by the Student Programming and Activities for Campus
Entertainment (SPACE) Committee. Disability accommodations are
available upon request and can be made by calling 218-281-8506.

Disclosure of Student
Disability Information
The season of the job search
season is here for students once again, and I would like to offer few
basic guidelines related to the disclosure of student disability-related
information.
No disclosure of
disability related information should be offered to a potential employer
without the advance consent of the student. Disability information is
regarded in the same way as medical information, and must be handled
accordingly. In most cases, the individual with the disability should
be the one who discloses that information to a potential employer.
For those of you who
would like additional information about this topic, a special open
informational session is scheduled for March 25 in Sahlstrom Conference
Center 131 from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. with Tom Anderson, Director of the
Department of Rehabilitation Services as our guest presenter. Students
are strongly encouraged to attend this meeting or to stop by and pick up
materials for review and discussion
For those of you unable
to attend this informational session, I would encourage you to review
the enclosed attachment that
discusses if, when, where and how to disclose a disability during the
course of a job search. Please feel free to contact my office if you
have questions with regard to this information or that on the
attachment.
Thank you for your
continued assistance on behalf of UMC students with disabilities.
--Laurie Wilson, Office for Students with Disabilities
Reminder
on the Use of UMC’s Golden Eagle Logo
The policy on use of the UMC
Golden Eagle Logo as established by the UMC Image and Marketing
Committee is as follows:
- The UMC Golden Eagle Logo adopted by the Image
and Marketing Committee on April 9, 2001, is now the official UMC
Golden Eagle Logo to be used as a major mark. The UMC Golden Eagle
will be registered as a trademark upon its official adoption.
- The use of other Golden Eagle Logo marks are not
recommended or approved. Use of other stylized eagle head marks on
various applications such as uniforms, clothing, publications, web
pages, or display materials will not be paid from University funds.
- Applications such as UMC athletic uniforms, etc.
that are currently in use will be granted approval for continued use
under a grandfather clause permitting usage until new athletic
uniforms are purchased.
Work-study for 2002-2003
I am pleased to inform you that
the UMC Executive Committee approved a base pay rate increase for our
student workers effective fall 2002. The new minimum hourly wage will
be $6.75. Our total work-study dollars, both state and federal, are
expected to stay about the same for the 2002-2003 academic year.
In light of the new wage rate and the many
changes in programs, departments, and faculty/staff over the years, we
have decided that now is a good time to reevaluate the needs of the
campus and insure that the departments are getting the work-study
coverage that they need. Our goal is to utilize our work-study funding
in a way that will maximize our student productivity and the services we
provide.
If you currently supervise a work-study
position or would like to request one, please complete the
attached list of questions.
Everyone who currently supervises a work-study position is REQUIRED
to complete this form, or they will not be allocated a position next
year.
Once we have received the completed forms,
we plan on pulling a focus group together to discuss any issues,
concerns, ideas, etc. Please note that the deadline to return the
completed form to the Financial Aid Office is April 15, 2002.
If you have any questions please feel free
to contact me. Thank you for your time and input.
--Heidi Patterson, Associate Director of Financial Aid
