| UCard
U Card Eligibility and Procedures for students enrolled in distance and online (E90) courses only.
An individual must have registered for UMC classes a minimum of 1-day (24 hours) prior to obtaining a U Card.
U Card Issuance
A student’s first U Card is free. A $15 replacement fee will be charged for lost, stolen, or damaged U Cards. U Card information is available online at http://www1.umn.edu/ucard/umc/cindex.html.
There are two ways you can obtain a U Card — either by visiting the Office of the Registrar at UMC or through the Center for Adult Learning.
In Person
U Cards are issued at the Office of the Registrar, One Stop Student Service Center, located in 170 Owen Hall. Hours are 8:00 am to 12:00 noon, Monday through Friday.
A photo ID must be presented -- driver's license, state ID or passport are accepted. Digital photos are taken as part of the card issuance process. Replacement cards (lost, stolen or damaged) cost $15.
Center for Adult Learning (CAL)
Distance students enrolled only in online classes may submit: (1) a current, standard sized, passport quality photo and (2) a copy of a valid driver's license, state ID or passport to CAL. For more information on photo standards, visit the Department of State website at http://www.travel.state.gov/passport/pptphotos/index.html, or contact the USCIS National Customer Service Center at 1 800 375 5283. (See also the “7 Steps to Successful Photos” description below.)
The department will forward the photo and accompanying documents to the Office of the Registrar. The individual’s photo will be scanned and a U Card will be printed and sent back to CAL for distribution to the student. Individuals may not send their photo directly to the U Card Office. This procedure can be initiated by contacting:
