Qualified trainer – A person who is a certified pesticide applicator. To become certified, you may study training materials from the MN Department of Agriculture and take a test. If you pass, you will become certified. In order to remain certified you must renew your certification every year, and update by attending seminars provided by the state every two years.

 

PPE – Personal Protective Equipment – may consist of waterproof gloves or footwear, waterproof suit or jacket, respirator, eye protection, hood, or any other items to keep pesticide residue off your skin and out of your face.

 

Decontamination Site – a place where a person exposed to pesticides or pesticide residue can wash. It must be close to the area where the pesticide was applied and must contain clean water, soap, and disposable towels.

&nbApril 16, 2008rson who has been trained to apply pesticides. This person does not need to be a certified pesticide applicator, but must be trained by one.

 

Highly Toxic Pesticides – These pesticides have a Danger warning on the label and are extremely toxic to humans. Most often these products are restricted, meaning they must be purchased and applied by a certified pesticide applicator.

 

Fumigant – A fumigant is a gaseous pesticide that is applied in an enclosed place. Since the pesticide is in the form of a gas, it is easily breathed in by people. It is highly toxic.

 

REI – Restricted Entry Interval – Every pesticide label lists the REI required for the product. It may be from 4 to 72 hours. During this time people should not be in the treated area.
