Fun facts about Crookston: In the heartland of the Red River Valley, sits the seat for the Catholic Diocese of Crookston, the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. The diocese’ first bishop, Msgr. Timothy Corbett, was a classmate of Jim Hill, the railroad baron. With Hill’s financial assistance, the diocese developed its schools, an orphanage and its Benedictine Monastery at Mt. St. Benedict in Crookston. The diocese and the monastery are soon celebrating a centennial and a 90 year anniversary respectively in 2009. Great things about UMC: The Aviation Degree Program! UMC offers the only program in Minnesota for training students with interests in natural resources, law enforcement and agricultural aviation.
