Career
Ladder & Transfer Opportunities
While
UMC’s degree in Health Management prepares new high school
graduates for entry level career positions in health management,
the program also provides a career ladder for employed health care
personnel who already have an associate degree or diploma in an
allied health field. Several community and technical colleges have
developed transfer agreements with UMC. If you have a degree in
a health related field from an accredited and approved associate
degree program, you will normally receive 90 credits toward a bachelor
of science degree in Health Management. Academic credit may also
be granted for nontraditional learning, provided the learning is
related to your personal and professional goals in the health care
industry. You can compile a competency assessment package (CAP).
A CAP is a formalized collection of materials and documents. These
materials identify and describe professional training and experiential
learning that can be evaluated for college-level credit.
Nontraditional
and Distance Course Delivery
UMC is developing ways to offer selected courses to students who
are placebound because of their current employment situations. E-mail,
Internet, and disk delivered courseware are all available for selected
courses.
Approved by Minnesota Long-Term Care Association
UMC’s degree program in Health Management meets the state
of Minnesota's regulations for long-term health care administration
licensure. Upon completion of the B.S. degree, UMC graduates are
qualified to write the state and national Long-Term Care Administrator
Licensure Examination.
