The UMC Advantage

Dissection demonstration

UMC has nearly a century-long tradition of focusing on agriculture.  Located in the Red River Valley of the North, one of the world's most productive agricultural regions, UMC and its faculty have built a great network with producers, industry, and other professionals.

The distinctive electronic learning environment at UMC complements the strong agricultural education curriculum. This technological skill--or techno-savvy--makes UMC's graduates formidable educators.  They truly understand how technology can affect education for the better.

UMC's excellent student/faculty ratio (16:1) fosters a climate of personalized attention to individual student strengths, interests, and needs. Combined with UMC's practical "hands-on" approach to learning, this creates an environment that gives students the most opportunities for learning.

UMC has a strong Collegiate FFA chapter, allowing students interested in this organization to continue their involvement and to build on their leaderships skills.

Each year in December UMC hosts Ag Activities Day, a contest that brings 1,200 high school students interested in agriculture to campus to compete in various contests.  UMC students are involved in the planning and running of each contest.

Each year in January UMC hosts Ag-Arama, a festival and competition for all UMC students.  The event allows UMC students to showcase their skills and interact with alumni, industry professionals, and the general public.  Ag-Arama is a great tradition at UMC!

This is a collaborative program between the University of Minnesota, Crookston, and the University of Minnesota Division of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Education (AFEE) based on the St. Paul campus.
